We were called to a breakdown on a paper die-cutting machine having no drive, but the main drive motor was running.
Upon arrival, we found one of the clutch plates which engages the drive motor to be broken into pieces.
Having taken apart the clutch mechanism we found the clutch plate was beyond repair and required a new clutch plate. The machine manufacturer quoted a 16-week lead time for a new clutch plate which is an unacceptable amount of downtime for any business.
We therefore took the pieces of the clutch plate created a drawing and had a new clutch plate machined from a billet block.
Making the new clutch plate from a billet block meant not only the new clutch plate was stronger than the original cast piece but we were able to get the part machined and fitted in less than 2 weeks, limiting the downtime for the customer.
